Welcome to resilience in life and leadership with your host, Stephanie Olson, speaker, author addictions sexual violence and resilience expert Stephanie Olson with resilience in life and leadership, and I just want to give huge apologies to you for being so far behind on the podcast, it has been an overwhelming season for me, which is all good things. So for most of you, if you have been listening to the podcast, then you know that my real world job is running a nonprofit that does prevention education on human trafficking, social media safety and healthy relationships. And we have a curriculum from kindergarten through college age for youth, and adults of every area aspect, every facet of the community. And so we love to educate on this topic, because it is our youth that are actually at risk for human trafficking. And a lot of people don't don't understand that human trafficking is not about kidnapping. It's about building relationships. And so that's what traffickers do. They target individuals, because of vulnerabilities, high risk factors, but that vulnerability could be, hey, I'm on social media, I posted something kind of stupid. And now, there's somebody who is going to see that and use that against me, and not in a blackmailing way, but use that against me, oh, gosh, you don't feel good about yourself, you look amazing. Let me tell you, I love you. You don't, you don't feel like you fit in, hey, I will be your friend. And so that's what traffickers are doing. And we need to know those things. But more importantly, so do the targets of trafficking our youth. And so that's what the set me free project does. We have a mission to stop human trafficking before it starts. And that's really important. So for the first time, we are making sure that schools actually have our curriculum in their hands now, for years, and we've been doing this for about seven years, but for years, we have been the ones going into the schools, educating, we're in about currently 400 schools between Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota region, Illinois, and Kansas. And so we've been very heavily saturated in the Midwest. But that was with our own people educating with our own curriculum with our own people. Needless to say, that doesn't help us grow and expand in the way that we absolutely need to grow and expand. And and with the changes in schools after COVID. And some of the things we've seen teachers leaving, and it's just been a very difficult time for families, for teachers, for educators as a whole. But for students, too. There's a lot of behavioral issues that are developmentally behind. And there are just a lot of things that our kiddos need on that resources and on that level. So for the first time to set me free project is selling our curriculum to schools, to get in the hands of counselors to get in the hands of social workers, even teachers who can use this curriculum. And it's a pretty massive curriculum, we have about 10 separate pieces of the actual full curriculum. So sex trafficking for middle and high school, we have healthy relationships for middle and high school. We have we have social media for middle and high school. And then we also have elementary curriculum about not about trafficking, but about things like consent, about bodily autonomy, about empathy, about responsibility, and all of those things, and absolutely, about social media, because unfortunately, young young kiddos are accessing social media and one of the things we always say is, when you have access to the world, the world has access to you. So that's a really important piece of the puzzle. So we are getting the curriculum, all pieces of the curriculum in the hands of counselors, teachers, educators, so that they can work hand in hand with those students over as long of a period of Time or shortest period of time as they are able to do with our support completely throughout that year. So we provide support with disclosures we provide, of course, troubleshooting support, but also, you know, what do I do with this portion or whatever it may be, and then the opportunity to recertify every year. And so that is what we are providing, we are so excited, we're providing that for schools, we're providing that for agencies, and anybody who wants to do this work, which should be every someone in every community, because it is so important, we are able to provide the resources and the help for you to do that. So that's what we are all about. You know, it's, it's important, it's important work. Prevention has got to be first because if we can actually stop human trafficking before it starts, that's huge. And the beauty of our curriculum is it doesn't just talk about human trafficking, the foundation is you have an intrinsic value that nobody can change. And that comes with so many different levels, human trafficking is just a symptom of the problem. Just like drugs, alcohol, whatever it may be. So this gives our youth the opportunity to understand their incredible value, their incredible worth and human dignity, and that everybody else has value, too. So that's what I have been working on. Needless to say, I have kind of let the podcast Slack. So that's where I bring you apologies, I appreciate your patience, I am so sorry, that I am behind. But what I'm going to be doing is dropping podcasts more frequently, over the next few months. So instead of just every Friday, you'll be getting two to three a week. And hopefully, we'll catch up. And we'll be back on track right around the time of a little podcast break. And then moving into the second season. So that's super exciting.
